SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Land Director, this position will be responsible for specific duties surrounding all surface land functions and will be well versed in right-of-way disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible to the Land Director for the following:

  • Responds, interacts and professionally represents Mitsui with landowners, consultants, County and State regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Understands, negotiates, and prepares various agreements, including surface and subsurface use agreements, Rights-of-Way, survey permission/ROE, survey plats, water agreements, and various other easement agreements.
  • Responsible for scheduling on-site meetings with landowners and company personnel.
  • Able to react to, analyze, and present solutions for complex issues in preparation for operations and development.
  • Collaborate with subsurface landman to timely deliver clearance to drill (Land) subsequent to analysis of title opinions/curative, and surface clearance.
  • Coordinate and oversee staking for surface locations, pipelines, compressor sites, and other related surface infrastructure.
  • Has working knowledge of how land interacts with Operations, Engineering, Geoscience, Accounting, Legal and Marketing.
  • Communicates timely with land, operations, exploration, midstream, and production personnel of all upcoming lease/easement obligations directly related to surface operations.
  • Negotiate and settle complex surface damage settlements.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Able to work independently or with little or no supervision.
  • Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary group to achieve project related goals.
  • Prior experience in operated oil and gas assets including familiarity with planning, staking and permitting wells, including but not limited to operations in the State of Texas.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite, ArcGIS, Quorum.
  • Good verbal/written communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable county, state and federal regulatory rules and procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Business, or a related field is required.
  • A required minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a practicing surface landman, land negotiator, or other relevant experience; preferred fifteen (15+) years of experience.
  • Solid knowledge of land management principles required.
  • Must have project management skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English.

LICENCES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and/or local Landman Association membership.
  • Certified Professional Landman (CPL) designation is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
