SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Land Director, this position will manage land-related activities within the company’s acreage position. The position will also contribute in the acquisition and integration of acquired properties into the existing business and for all facets of production and acquisition land work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible to the Land Director for the following:

  • Responds, interacts and professionally represents Mitsui with industry co-owners, private landowners, consultants, etc.
  • Negotiates and prepares various agreements, including leases, farm outs, term assignments, operating agreements, designations of pooled units.
  • Responsible for conducting all land work to include obtaining and evaluating land data (i.e. records, titles, abstracts, etc.) and/or lease or surface agreement for acquisition, development and/or divestiture.
  • Secures the examinations of titles, resolves defects, and settles damage claims.
  • Delivers clearance to drill (Land) subsequent to analysis of title opinions/curative, and surface clearance.
  • Reviews agreements, contracts, regulations, and schedules to confirm economic models and leasehold maintenance.
  • Has working knowledge of how land interacts with Operations, Engineering, Geoscience, Accounting, Legal and Marketing; and will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of industry financial drivers.
  • Communicates timely with Land, Operations, Engineering, Geoscience, Accounting, Legal and Marketing with issues that may include operations decisions and potential acquisition targets.
  • Ensures that oil & gas related proposals or offers are promptly and timely prepared and submitted to industry co-owners; and will promptly communicate timeline and elections with Land and other internal departments.
  • Provides knowledge and support in lease administration, including awareness of the company’s acreage position, as well as burdens and obligations required to maintain leasehold.
  • Provides support in the areas of proper payment of obligations and burdens, division of interest setup, including but not limited to, calculation and maintenance of company working and net revenue interest.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Able to work independently or with little or no supervision.
  • Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary group to achieve project related goals.
  • Prior experience in operated oil and gas assets including familiarity with planning, staking and permitting wells, and drill clearance (Land) including but not limited to operations in the State of Texas.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite, ArcGIS and Quorum.
  • Good verbal/written communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable county, state and federal regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Prior due diligence experience related to sale/purchases of oil and gas interests.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Business, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of in-house, broad-based working experience in traditional landman/land negotiator roles, or other relevant experience; preferred fifteen (15+) years’ experience.
  • Solid knowledge of land management principles required.
  • Experience in unconventional reservoir development preferred.
  • Must have project management skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English.

LICENCES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and/or local Landman Association membership.
  • Certified Professional Landman (CPL) designation is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
