Completions Engineer

SUMMARY:

Mitsui E&P USA (MEPUSA) is looking for an experienced Completions Engineer with technical and operations background. This person will be responsible for providing completions and operations support and expertise for all MEPUSA assets, including operated, non-operated, and business development opportunities. This person will be expected to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, entrepreneurial environment supporting a growth-minded E&P company. MEPUSA has a small office, start-up culture where individuals get exposure to all facets of the business and is backed by the financial strength and balance sheet of a global, diverse trading house company with over 150 years of history. MEPUSA’s areas of responsibility cover North and South America, onshore and offshore, conventional and unconventional, conventional hydrocarbon energy and emerging CCUS transition technologies.

This position will report to the Vice President of Engineering & Operations and will work with the integrated asset and business development teams to establish a strong foundation for technical and operational excellence for the drilling discipline. The office is located in the Houston Galleria area and offers two-day remote & three-day in office work schedule with generous benefits and competitive pay.

Title and compensation are dependent on candidate experience. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of driving performance improvement efforts and possess complimentary skills in 1) another operational engineering & operations support role such as drilling, production, etc., 2) Spotfire / PowerBI to develop operational dashboards and performance metrics, and 3) a deep understanding of digital technology, automation, AI capabilities and their use in streamlining and improving performance, and 4) ability to build a business case to justify different alternatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design and optimization of well completions, considering reservoir characteristics, value and production objectives.

  • Demonstrated experience with HPHT completion operations is a must.

  • Collaborate with drilling and reservoir engineering teams to integrate completion strategies into overall field development plans and economics.

  • Provide expert guidance on the selection of completion technologies, tools, vendors, and materials.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in completions engineering.

  • Conduct risk assessments related to completion operations and implement mitigation measures. Demonstrate a high degree of understanding of HSE mitigation methods.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry’s best practices.

  • Manage and oversee completions projects from conception to execution, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.

  • Collaborate with project teams to troubleshoot and resolve any completion-related issues. Be able to demonstrate results with KPI’s and formal best practices/look backs.

  • Utilize data analytics to assess well performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Implement data-driven solutions to enhance completion efficiency and productivity.

  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Have a strong industry network with Operators and vendors.

  • Ability to serve as Operations Section Chief during an emergency response. Have a good understanding of well control methods.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced level understanding of real time completions data and how it can be used/modeled to provide more effective and efficient real time decisions.

  • Effective communicator and negotiator in dealing with external 3rd parties (e.g. vendors) to seek out win-win scenarios and/or strategic partnerships to create higher value scenarios.

  • Possess strong working knowledge of basic drilling fundamentals and associated workflows, as well as good understanding of relational databases, subsurface information pertinent to well design, and data management.

  • Prepare and deliver internal and external technical and commercial presentations to peers, management, and partners.

  • Understand the concept of optimizing value.

  • Possess strong communication and organizational skills and able to work well with peers, management, field personnel, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Must possess a high degree of initiative and independent judgement.

  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Capability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy.

  • Work independently and within integrated, multi-discipline teams.

  • Operate with integrity, teamwork, open communication, strong sense of ownership/accountability.

  • Passion for continuous improvement approach to consistently drive to extract incremental value.

  • Strong adherence to Safety First culture and demonstrated HSE leadership in the field.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 15+ yrs oil and gas industry experience, with at least 10 years in the Completions discipline with significant experience in HPHT operations

  • Exposure to exploration, appraisal, and development projects in various US onshore basins

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • None required.

  • Well Control Certification desired.
