Staff Landman

Department: MEPUSA - Operations
Location: Houston, TX

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Land Manager, this role performs senior-level land work across the company’s acreage position with a focus on title, well-planning and regulatory. Prior Texas experience is a requirement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible to the Land Manager for the following:

  • Applies an exploration driven mindset to land efforts supporting unconventional deep gas drilling in the Western Haynesville of East Texas.

  • Responds, interacts and professionally represents Mitsui with co-workers, private landowners, consultants, etc.

  • Reviews planned drilling and/or surface locations for land readiness.

  • Analyzes and identifies material agreements, contracts, regulations, and schedules to confirm wellsite locations and report to Land Manager and integrated asset team.

  • Responsible for land work to include coordinating field brokers for curative title efforts, and evaluating title for drill/pay readiness (i.e. review of runsheets and abstracts, title opinions, evaluation, prioritization, and coordination of curative, etc.).

  • Contribute to clearance to drill (Land) after analysis of title opinions, coordination and delivery of curative.

  • Ensures timely preparation and submission of oil and gas proposals, clearly communicating timelines and elections with Land and other departments.

  • Calculates and confirms interest estimates (working interest and net revenue interest) and coordinates with AFE originators for elections and consents.

  • Interfaces effectively with Operations, Engineering, Geoscience, Accounting, Legal and Marketing, with a strong understanding of industry financial drivers.

  • Communicates timely on issues that may include operations decisions and planned locations.

  • Contribute to special initiates involving planning of unconventional wells and pooled units in Texas.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Able to work independently, with little or no supervision, in a fast-paced environment with multiple and sometimes changing priorities.

  • Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary group to achieve project-related goals.

  • Prior experience in operated oil and gas assets including expertise with planning, staking and permitting wells, drill clearance with prior experience (in-house) operations in the State of Texas.

  • Knowledge of applicable county, state and federal regulatory rules and procedures.

  • Strong budgeting, and cost tracking skills.

  • Strong PC skills including MS Office Suite, ArcGIS and Quorum.

  • Good verbal/written communication, organization and time management skills.

  • Must have strong project management skills.

  • Ability to review, make recommendations, and implement workflow processes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Business, or a related field is required.

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of in-house, broad-based working experience in traditional landman/land negotiator roles, or other relevant experience

  • Solid knowledge of land management principles required.

  • Experience in Texas unconventional reservoir operations preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and/or local Landman Association membership.

  • AAPL designation (RPL, CPL) is preferred.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
